Philosophy of Education
“Let all that you do be done with love” -1 Corinthians 16:14. This is a concept I strive to live by in my day to day life, and one I intend to share with my students. Love is a powerful thing, and can change the world, if only each person would share it with one another. I intend for my students to know that when they enter my classroom, they are in a safe learning environment, one that they can grow academically, socially, and intellectually in. I believe that this is what a teacher’s duty is- to teach their students (both the curriculum and real world application) and make sure that students know that they are cared for and that I, the teacher, sincerely want them to succeed.
I choose to be an educator because I want to share the love of learning with my students. The students I teach could potentially go on to be doctors, lawyers, teachers- whatever their heart's desire, and I want to give them a foundation they can build their goals upon. I will encourage them to strive for their goals. I want my students to have a love of learning, and along the way, I hope I can assist them in finding something they are passionate about.
Classroom management is also important. It is essential to each student’s education because it provides a safe learning environment. In my classroom, I will set up a daily routine. I believe that routine is important to students because they learn what I expect of them, and they also know what to expect out of their school day. My classroom will be set up around cooperative, hands-on learning. Being able to work with others is an important skill to learn, and learning with manipulatives gives students a chance to physically see what they are doing, and what the goal is they are aiming to achieve. In focusing on cooperative learning, I want my students to learn from one another, and for me to be able to learn from them as well.
I will encourage my students in their endeavors, allowing them to use their imagination, but also guiding them so they still learn the objectives. I will work one-on-one with students who may be struggling with a concept, and continue working with them until they are able to understand. Not all students learn in the same way, so I will learn how to teach each student in the way they can learn. As my students learn and grow, I will as well. With each year I can add on to my knowledge as a teacher, and will always continue learning how to effectively teach my students. As a teacher, I will share my love of learning with my students, ensure that my students know that they are cared for and that I genuinely want them to succeed, and that when they enter my classroom they are entering into a safe learning environment.
